Last week, I asked the question of listmembers about recommendations for a blender, and got very helpful advice about BlendTec and VitaMix. In the end, I chose BlendTec, mostly because it's shorter, which will fit better in my RV, and it's got a 3hp motor vs. the VitaMix 2hp, and I got a better deal.
I have just received my Blendtec 3 hp blender. I am sure, in looking around at variousdemos on the VitaMix and the BlendTec, that I sawseveral demos using whole fruits. Specifically, I remember one that said to put in watermelon, rind and all. Also, I watched whole carrots going in, and whole celery stalks, and whole apples, and whole tomatoes.
Now, I'm looking at the recipe book for the BlendTec, andmost recipes call for "skinning" the tomatoes, coring the apples, and cutting the carrots and celery into smaller pieces. I see, in recipes that call for parmesan cheese that will be melted, they say to start with grated cheese!
Well, part of the reason I loved the idea of these machines was the whole idea that you use the entire food - apples, stems, cores, seeds, and skin; pineapple with the core; watermelon with the rind; and strawberries, carrots, etc. with the greens. One of the biggest "selling" features was the minimal amount of prep work necessary.
Now, this recipe book even calls for steaming broccoli for soup.
Am I missing something?
